Hatching Guide
Hatching Guide
What You’ll Need:
Artemia Cysts (brine shrimp eggs)
Salt
Transparent container (a small container/tank, or a dedicated Artemia hatchery)
Air pump with airline tubing and airstone (for aeration)
Light source (an aquarium light or natural sunlight)
Step-by-Step Instructions
In a container, add 10g of salt for every 500ml of tap water used. Stir or aerate until the salt is fully dissolved.
Place a rigid airline tubing or airstone into the container to provide constant aeration. This keeps the cysts suspended and ensures proper oxygen levels for hatching.
Adjust the airflow to create gentle to moderate bubbling.
Using the spoon provided, add up to 2 spoons of Artemia cysts per 500ml of water. Avoid overloading the container to ensure proper hatching. Each spoon holds approximately 0.5g of cysts.
Place the container under a light source (an aquarium light or near a window). Artemia cysts hatch best in warm, well-lit conditions.
Artemia cysts typically starts hatching after 24 hours. Personally, I would recommend harvesting between the 28-32 hour mark to get the highest BBS yield from our artemia cysts. At this point, you'll know it's ready for harvest when the colour of the water turns from brown to light orange!
Remove the airstone and use a torchlight to shine at one of the corners of the container.
Wait for 5 minutes. The empty eggshells will float to the surface, while the nauplii will move towards the light source and gather at the corner.
Using the pippette provided, you can now easily harvest the BBS and feed them directly to your fishes!
Common FAQs
What type of salt should I use?
Our artemia cysts is compatible with most types of salt. Personally, I would recommend normal aquarium salt from your nearby local fish stores. These are usually sold at $1/kg, cheap and lasts a long time, highly recommeneded!
I get my stock from NKS Aquarium at Kovan :)
